Rwanda’s transformation

Africa Renewal takes a look at the great strides Rwanda has taken since the 1994 genocide that left over 800,000 dead to become a regional leader in information and communication technology. The government has adopted business-friendly policies and set a series of ambitious policies and timeframes to encourage investment, development the ICT infrastructure, and speed up introduction of key technologies and skills. The integration of technology is not only affecting business and the economy, but also the daily lives of Rwandans in several ways. Mobile phone applications – for mobile banking, pharmaceutical tracking, healthcare, agriculture, to name a few – are becoming more commonplace and effective.

About CTED

CTED, as part of the New York University Abu Dhabi Research Grant, is a multidisciplinary research lab that focuses on combining economic principles, technological advances, and human-centric design to create innovative solutions for the problems experienced in emerging regions.
