Dubai hotel turns to solar energy

The easyHotel in Dubai was built with an eye to several key energy efficiency features, reducing its energy usage by about 19%. The budget hotel has over 60 solar collectors on its roof to heat water in the building. Many other features of the building were also built to maintain energy efficiency and with an eye to the local climate – for example, the insulation and glazing on the glass exterior, daylight shafts which allow sunlight into interior rooms and water-saving fixtures. The article also notes that the key energy efficient features required a slightly higher initial investment, but has led to savings over time.
