Abu Dhabi developing microchip industry

Abu Dhabi is taking large steps to developing its own microchip industry as part of its efforts to diversify industry in the capital and to provide a lasting industry after oil and gas production has wound down. The goal is to have a functioning plant operating by the end of 2015 and to draw similar investment in software and computing to the Emirates. There have also been efforts to strengthen the country’s national workforce in this industry to provide a lasting commitment to this new field.

CTED, as part of the New York University Abu Dhabi Research Grant, is a multidisciplinary research lab that focuses on combining economic principles, technological advances, and human-centric design to create innovative solutions for the problems experienced in emerging regions.
